Concerts

Alexandra Kahrer was born in Lower Austria in 1998 and received her first cello lessons from Gottfried Plank and Josef Luitz. In 2012, she was accepted as a junior student in Robert Nagy’s class at the University of Music and Performing Arts Vienna. From 2016 to 2020 she studied with Wen-Sinn Yang at the University of Music and Performing Arts Munich. Since 2020, she has been a student of Wolfgang Emanuel Schmidt at the Franz Liszt University of Music Weimar.

She also received valuable inspiration from masterclasses with Wolfgang Boettcher, Peter Bruns, Patrick Demenga, László Fenyö, Frans Helmerson, Sebastian Klinger, Jens Peter Maintz, Gustav Rivinius and Troels Svane.

Alexandra has won prizes at several competitions: she has won several 1st prizes at Prima la Musica national competitions and at the International Cello Competition in Liezen. In 2012 she was a prizewinner at the International Festival “Allegro Vivo” in Austria and was awarded the “Johann Krahuletz Prize”. In 2014, she won 1st prize at the international competition “Giovani Musicisti” – Citta di Treviso in Italy and in the same year won the Musica Juventutis competition at the Vienna Konzerthaus in the piano trio category. 2018 she was awarded 3rd prize at the 24th International Leoš Janáček Competition in Brno. In 2019 she was again awarded the prize at the International “Allegro Vivo” Festival and in 2020 she won 1st prize at the Gustav Mahler Prize Cello Competition in the Czech Republic. In the same year, she won a prize at the German Musical Instrument Fund competition in Hamburg. Most recently, she won 2nd prize at the International David Popper Cello Competition in Hungary in 2021.

As a soloist, she has performed with the Camerata Allegro Vivo, the Franz Schmidt Chamber Orchestra, the Bad Reichenhall Philharmonic, the Southwest German Chamber Orchestra Pforzheim, the Orchestr Czech Virtuosi, the Enigma Classica Chamber Orchestra and the Jena Philharmonic, among others.

She has performed as a soloist and chamber music partner in major concert halls such as the Vienna Musikverein, the Vienna Konzerthaus, the Weimarhalle and the Brno Philharmonic.
