Andrea Traxler

The cellist Andrea Traxler is active as a chamber musician, orchestral musician and teacher and was engaged, among others, in the orchestra of the Vienna State Opera. Concerts with the Vienna Philharmonic Orchestra under G. Dudamel, M. Jansons, C. Thielemann, A. Nelsons, F. Welser-Möst, Z. Mehta, V. Gergiev and many others have taken her to the great concert halls of Europe, America and Asia. In addition to her longstanding participation in the Vienna State Opera Orchestra, the Vienna Philharmonic Orchestra and the Vienna Volksoper Symphony Orchestra, she performs as a chamber musician and member of various ensembles.

Andrea Traxler leads a violoncello intensive training class at the Johann Sebastian Bach Music School Vienna (study preparation, support programme in cooperation with the Vienna University of Music and Performing Arts). She also holds a teaching position at the Vienna University of Music and Performing Arts. During her studies she completed the special module “Music Physiology”, further education and courses of the ÖGfMM (Austrian Society for Musicians’ Medicine) as well as an internship at the Stellenbosch Conservatory (South Africa) with Prof. Dalena Roux (“the body-related work on the instrument”). The cellist completed her studies at the Sydney Conservatorium of Music, at the University of Music and Performing Arts Vienna and at the Hochschule für Musik in Cologne, where she graduated with distinction in 2012 with a concert diploma under Prof. H.C. Schweiker.

The musical work with young people and the goal of forming independent musical personalities – by teaching sound design, body feeling, technique, joy and motivation – is one of the most beautiful challenges.
